Instructions For Authors

The Journal of Mediterranean, European and African Sciences (JMEAS) welcomes original, high-quality scholarly contributions that advance knowledge within Mediterranean, European, and African contexts.

All submissions must comply with the following Instructions for Authors and with the journal’s Editorial Policies, Ethics and Policies, and Competing Interests Policy.

Submission Procedure

To submit a new manuscript:

  • Follow the Author Guidelines for the preparation of your manuscript;

  • Read the Editorial Policies and Competing Interests Policy;

  • Register on the journal website (authors are encouraged to register also as reviewers);

  • Log in to your account;

  • Select the option to start a new submission and follow the online submission procedure.

To submit a revised manuscript:

  • Log in to your author account;

  • Click on the title of your manuscript;

  • Upload the revised version in the section dedicated to revisions;

  • Inform the Editors that a revised version has been submitted.

Article Types and Formats

Original Research Articles

  • Maximum length: 3,500 words

  • Abstract: up to 300 words

  • References: up to 50

  • Tables/Figures: 3–5

Structure:
Abstract; Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusions; References.

Review Articles

  • Maximum length: 5,000 words

  • Abstract: up to 250 words

  • References: 40–70

  • Tables/Figures: 3–5

Reviews should summarize and critically evaluate the state of the art.
Authors must clearly describe the search strategy (keywords, databases, inclusion/exclusion criteria). Headings should be used to structure the manuscript.

Case Reports

  • Maximum length: 2,000 words

  • Abstract: up to 150 words

  • References: up to 20

  • Tables/Figures: up to 3

Structure:
Abstract; Introduction; Case Description(s); Discussion; Conclusions; References.

Letters to the Editor

  • Maximum length: 1,000 words

  • Abstract: not required

  • References: up to 5

  • Tables/Figures: 1 maximum

Letters should address scientific issues related to articles published in JMEAS or topics within the journal’s scope. Letters are published at the discretion of the Editors and are not subject to formal peer review.

General Editorial Standards

  • All articles are subject to peer review.

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English.

  • The scientific quality of the work is the sole criterion for acceptance.

  • Excessive jargon and non-standard abbreviations should be avoided.

Authorship Criteria

All authors must meet internationally accepted authorship criteria, in line with the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Each author must have made a substantial contribution to:

  • the conception or design of the work, and/or

  • data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation, and/or

  • drafting or critically revising the manuscript.

All authors must approve the submitted version and agree to be accountable for their contributions.

Any change to the author list after submission requires written approval from all authors.

Ethical Standards

JMEAS adheres to the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors must submit a No Conflict of Interest Statement.
If no conflicts exist, authors must declare:
“The authors declare no competing interests.”

Manuscript Preparation

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format, double-spaced, with standard margins.

  • The first page must include:

    • manuscript title;

    • full author names and affiliations;

    • corresponding author contact details.

  • A set of keywords must be provided for indexing.

Manuscript Structure (recommended)

  • Abstract (approx. 5% of manuscript length)

  • Introduction

  • Materials and Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Acknowledgements (if any)

  • References

References

References must be cited numerically in the text and listed in numerical order at the end.

Examples:

Journal article
Autorino R, Lamendola MG, De Luca G, et al. Title. Journal Name Year; Volume: pages.

Book chapter
Robb RJ, Lin Y. Chapter title. In: Editor(s), eds. Book Title. Publisher, City; Year: pages.

For eight or more authors, list the first three followed by et al.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of references.

Tables and Figures

  • Use SI units.

  • Tables and figures must be cited in order in the text.

  • Tables should include a concise title.

  • Figures must be submitted as separate high-quality files (PDF or JPG).

Reviewer Suggestions

Authors are invited to suggest three potential reviewers with appropriate expertise.

Suggested reviewers must:

  • not be recent collaborators (last five years);

  • not be affiliated with the authors’ institutions.

The Editors are not obliged to use suggested reviewers.

Language Editing

Manuscripts must be submitted in correct English.
If necessary, authors are encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission.

Accepted manuscripts undergo language editing. Extensive corrections may involve additional costs.

Proofreading

Page proofs are sent to authors for minor corrections only and must be returned within 48 hours.
Major textual changes are not permitted at this stage.

Editorial Decisions and Appeals

Possible editorial decisions:

  • Accept

  • Accept after Minor Revisions

  • Reconsider after Major Revisions

  • Reject and Encourage Resubmission

  • Reject

Authors may appeal a rejection by submitting a detailed, reasoned request to the Editorial Office.
Appeal decisions are final.

Production and Publication

Once accepted, manuscripts undergo copy-editing, proofreading, final corrections, and publication under the journal’s Open Access model.
