Special Issues Policy

The Journal of Mediterranean, European and African Sciences (JMEAS) publishes Special Issues to highlight emerging, innovative, or interdisciplinary research topics that fall within the journal’s aims and scope. Special Issues provide a focused forum for scholarly discussion on themes of particular relevance to Mediterranean, European, and African contexts.

1. Purpose of Special Issues

Special Issues are intended to:

  • promote research on emerging or strategically important topics;

  • encourage interdisciplinary and international collaboration;

  • provide visibility to new research directions and academic debates;

  • complement the journal’s regular issues without compromising editorial standards.

2. Proposal and Approval

Proposals for Special Issues may be submitted by members of the Editorial Board or by external scholars with demonstrated expertise in the proposed topic.

Each proposal must include:

  • a clear description of the theme and its relevance to the journal;

  • a rationale outlining the scholarly value of the Special Issue;

  • a proposed timeline;

  • the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the proposed Guest Editor(s).

All Special Issue proposals are subject to approval by the Editor-in-Chief or delegated senior editorial leadership.

3. Guest Editors

Special Issues are typically coordinated by one or more Guest Editors.

Guest Editors are responsible for:

  • defining the scope of the Special Issue;

  • soliciting and managing submissions;

  • overseeing the peer-review process in collaboration with the journal’s editorial team;

  • ensuring adherence to the journal’s Editorial Policies, ethical standards, and peer-review requirements.

Guest Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and are subject to the same ethical obligations as regular editors.

4. Peer Review and Editorial Oversight

All manuscripts submitted to Special Issues undergo the same rigorous peer-review process as regular submissions.

Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by Guest Editors’ personal or professional interests.
The journal retains final authority over all editorial decisions.

5. Publication Standards

Special Issue articles must meet the same quality, originality, and ethical standards as articles published in regular issues.

Acceptance into a Special Issue does not guarantee publication; manuscripts may be rejected following peer review or editorial evaluation.

6. Open Access and Licensing

Articles published in Special Issues are subject to the same Open Access policy and license terms as all other content published by JMEAS.

7. Scheduling and Publication

Special Issues may be published as part of a regular issue or as a dedicated collection, depending on editorial planning and content availability.

The publication of a Special Issue does not affect the journal’s regular publication schedule.

8. Withdrawal or Modification

The journal reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel a Special Issue if editorial, ethical, or quality standards cannot be met.
